Brief

We were delighted that The Chatham Dockyard Trust decided to use our knowledge of gift packaging for their newly opened gift shop providing us with the following brief :-

To produce gift boxes for a number of lines including a Skipping Rope, Dog Lead, Juggling Balls, Paper Weight, Magnets, Sailors Brush, Keyring and a Christmas Wreath
Rustic feel required in keeping with the historic setting
Must follow the strict Dockyard Trust brand guidelines for colour and content
Packaging to contain the product but with the product clearly visible and able to be touched

Challenge

With a number of products to package our first challenge was to see if any of the products could use the same packaging with just a print change thus helping to reduce down the associated set-up costs and keep everything looking synonymous, it wasn’t part of the brief but made significant cost saving which to us is always a good thing.

Achieving a rustic look and feel proved to be our second challenge, we felt this would be best achieved by using a different material from the norm something that would set this packaging apart form the rest! Using our extensive knowledge of available materials we set to work on finding a suitable option.

Result

The resulting packaging was achieved with only 3 sized cartons made possible by an interchangeable internal fitting to hold certain products in place. A glued parallel tuck end carton was selected for its ease of packing, with a window cut across the top and into the front panel giving an excellent view of the product whilst retaining maximum available print area for branding.

Using our extensive knowledge of available materials we set to work on finding a suitable material option, it wasn’t long before we came across a material called Multiboard Ecokraft which had the perfect look and feel for the product and its’ historic setting, that combined with a simple monotone image plus a 2 colour branding it really added to the rustic aesthetic of the cartons. We handled the project from start to finish including raising the artwork and producing printed samples before manufacture; the end result was an outstanding set of packaging that both the client and us were very happy with.
