We were tasked with designing a box and internal fitments in corrugated to replace an existing foam set which would protect and transport via courier a fragile CPU and peripherals including a keyboard. Brief included
The challenge with the brief was keeping the box size the same, it meant having to void fill in all 3 dimensions. Our design team started out by incorporating a creased board to the base of the box to keep the product off the bottom and away from the corners, it also provided a perfect void to keep the cables. A simple set of buffered dividers put a frame around the product stopping it from further moving. The top was protected by a set of self make up double walled side and top buffered fitments. It was apparent from the start due to the fragility of the product a good board would be needed, we chose a high grade of double walled EB flute material for maximum cushioning.
The resulting box was created using fully recyclable materials, a critical factor in the customers brief to further their sustainability credentials. Although the box and fitments consisted of several parts each part was designed so as to be as quick a possible to put together whilst still maintaining integrity and strength. Due to the high cost and quality of the product we opted to litho print and laminate the print sheet to the corrugated material which would give us the best quality print and high gloss finish. We’re pleased to say the customer has had no reported instances of damage and the packaging has gone down a storm in the retro computing world!
